We believe that an appreciation of a countries local arts and culture can present us with a deeper understanding of its people and their way of life especially in this era of globalization. This is because the local arts and cultures can reveal a formula for peaceful living and if realized can help create the paradigm shift needed to solve many of our worlds current problems.
Active president of the Surindra Rajabhat University, Associate Professor Dr. Achara Phanurat
Surin International Folklore Festival (SIFF) originated from a creative thought of active president to Surindra Rajabhat University, Associate Professor Dr.Achara Phanurat, that, folklore which is the treasure and wisdom of human kinds, contains a tremendous power to people’s lives in many ways. All human beings live their lives according to their beliefs in these treasures and wisdoms and can gain several advantages from them.
The dynamic of folklore, which could be dance, music or any other form of local wisdom, has its own identity and prosperity among people on earth of each geographical area and ethnicity. We might share similarities and differences in characteristics or symbolic features of folklore from society to society. One example of similarities, a peacock dance, has been found in the folk dance of Indonesia, Cambodia, China and Thailand.
The similiarity indicates a relationship among people on a route of culture. To explore these similarities and differences in ways of living at the grass-roots level, folklore should be raised up as a mediator to make understanding and accepting the similarities and differences of people in each part of the world. These understanding and accepting will hold the world together for peace and fraternity and Surindra Rajabhat University and Surin International Folklore Festival want to share this duty with all delegation countries.
